7 Easy Upgrades to Transform Your Kitchen

January 5, 2019 by Amy Cesario

Have you seen a new kitchen and wished it was yours? Chances are, you have talked yourself out of making changes because you think it is too expensive, you think you need a designer, maybe you just don’t know where to start.

The kitchen is where everyone gathers, no matter what size your house is, it just happens. Whether you are looking to make changes to sell your home or just refresh it starts with these easy upgrades. If you need help, let me know. I have great resources and a good eye.

Cabinets

Instead of installing new cabinets, you might be able to paint or stain your current cabinets. I’ve seen doors and fronts of drawers replaced with great results.

One trick to think about, if you want the kitchen to appear bigger use lighter colors.

Faucet

Whether you are staying or selling, a new faucet feels new and it looks new.

You and your guests or your prospective buyers like new.

It just feels good.

Knobs

Knobs and handles are key. If you aren’t changing your doors you may want to change the knobs.

There is no need to go crazy. You can keep it simple, stick with a knob if there is only one hole in the door.

If you don’t have holes in the doors and want a sleek look but need a pull or handle (click on the photo to make it larger) google “contemporary kitchen pulls”. They attach to the back of the door or drawer to keep that sleek look.

Storage

Is it time to rethink how and why you put things in certain places?

Could the pots and pans you use the least go into a different cabinet?

If this is something you struggle with a couple hours with an organizer can do wonders. Reconfiguring where and how you use the storage you have will help your kitchen feel like new.

Paint

Add a pop of color! Add color to a wall, an island, art, or chairs.

The stark white and grey kitchens are in, if you like stark or simple and want change, start with a taupe or grey to offset or monochrome the room.

If you want big change, paint the bottom cabinets one color and the upper cabinets another.

Backsplash

If your backsplash is ten years old or older, it’s probably time to make a change.

You may or may not need to change your countertops when doing this. If you do want to do both, do the countertop first or at the same time. They don’t have to be the same material, but – if you aren’t sure, ask a designer at the home improvement or countertop store. Having a professional eye is a really good idea.

Lighting

Whether you add lighting or change fixtures, make sure you have more than enough.

Under cabinet lighting is easy and will brighten up the counter space and change the feel of the kitchen.

If you are thinking of selling instead of staying be sure to update any pendant lighting and chandeliers before you put your house on the market if you don’t want to leave either of them when you sell.

If you are trying to decide to refresh or overhaul, let me know. I’m glad to help you find the right people to help you make the best decisions for you.
