Deep Root Watering in Denver

December 6, 2012 by Amy Cesario

Why should you care about deep root watering in Denver? When our trees and shrubs don’t receive enough water they send their roots to the water and sewer pipes going to and from your house. Every time we have a drought, someone has a sewer back up in their basement or crawl space because the roots take over the pipe. Cleaning out your pipes and the sewer discharge in your basement is worse problem than taking the time to avoid it. If we don’t get some rain or snow in Denver soon, you should start thinking about giving your trees and bushes some water.

If you decide surface water isn’t enough and you want to deep root water you should follow a few rules and since I am not an expert, I have looked up details and will link you to some other sites that can help those of you who need more details.

You will need a deep root watering fork or needle, go to the hardware store they can help you find the right one for you if you don’t already have one.  Deep Root Watering Tools.

The temperature needs to be over 40 degrees and no snow on the ground.  Urban Gardens and Colorado State University have a few more detail on the how, when, why and how much.

Companies who will deep root water for you:

  • Swingle Tree
  • Mountain High Tree
  • Ross Tree Company

(Sorry, I cannot recommend any of the above companies, I haven’t personally used them.)

If you are thinking of selling your home, this is particularly important, most buyers will be asking for a Sewer Inspection when doing a Home Inspection and Radon Test. You will not want tree roots sucking extra dollars out of your pocket before closing.
