A couple days ago I caught a glimpse of Nate Berkus’ Show, he happened to be saying someone’s back yard should reflect their personality. The gal on the show was married, bubbly, and gorgeous. He, of course, took her drab back yard and turned it into an oasis and it was as bubbly and gorgeous as she was.
This made me think. A few years ago I had flower beds that were overflowing, pots of herbs that I used daily and then dried or froze and used in the winter. The grill was fired up every night. Friends and neighbors were either at my house or we were at theirs and the table was either full of food or books or both. Since my son went to college the yard is bare and I haven’t even grilled one time and….the neighbors moved away. My yard looks lonely, bare and drab. Those words don’t describe me!
Since it is the end of the summer I won’t be making any changes right now except I will be planning for next year. I’m thinking soft lights, a few pots of herbs and maybe a few flowers again, a lounging chair so I can read and soak in the rays when I’m not working. I have enjoyed not overflowing and living a more minimal life since it has only been me in my house.
I’m going to start gathering ideas. Comment below and share what you love about your yard or patio. Maybe you need an intervention like me? Want to do it together?
Are you thinking you want to put your house on the market next summer? Do you have bulbs planted so we will have fabulous photos? Do you need to sell the drab patio furniture at a garage sale this summer? Maybe you need to look for furniture on sale before next year? Start thinking and preparing. Let me know if you need help.
If I show you a picture next summer of a nome or a rocker or even a disco ball in my yard…be worried and then come save me. Please! Well, the disco ball might be okay…
